In Canada, we know how much the United States influences us. Their economy, culture, and decisions often ripple across the border. But American Thanksgiving always feels unique.
For us, it’s just another Thursday. Our Thanksgiving happens in October, so November’s fourth Thursday is a regular workday. But it’s a quiet one. The office feels still, with fewer emails and calls. It’s a day to catch up, decorate for Christmas, or simply reflect on the year.
This reflection has been especially meaningful for me this year.
A Year of Big Changes
2024 has been a year of growth and change. In January, I made a tough decision. I left a company I loved, where I had been a big part of its growth. It was a business full of hopes and dreams, but like many things, it faced challenges beyond our control.
When I left, I didn’t know what was next. I just knew what I was good at, what I needed to learn, and what I wanted for the future. I launched AdmiralBridge Software in March 2024, and started forging my own path, planning and revising those plans as I received feedback from the industry and customers.
Starting a business was a lifelong dream. I wanted to prove that leadership, customer service, and success could work differently. It has been a journey full of lessons, challenges, and growth.
The Strength to Keep Going
Through this journey, I’ve learned the power of resilience. I am thankful for my parents, who sacrificed so much to give me opportunities. I am grateful for those close to me, who believe in me even when I doubt myself.
This year has shown me that success isn’t about titles or degrees. It’s about helping others. A quote by Jimmy Carr really stuck with me this week:
“Everyone is jealous of what you’ve got, no one is jealous of how you got it.”
Success comes from the connections you make and the people you help. And while profit is essential, it’s what you do with it that truly matters. This is how I summerize what success means to me:
“Success only happens when you make a genuine connection with someone you have the power to help, and you help them regardless of the profit margin.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
As I reflect on this year, I feel grateful for everything it has taught me. The challenges of 2024 have prepared me for what’s next. I am excited for 2025 – the people I’ll meet, the problems I’ll solve, and the opportunities to grow.
